THEATRE UNDER THE STARS
FAIR OAKS THEATRE FESTIVAL was founded in 1983 by a group of local business and community leaders that recognized the value of the little-used Veterans Memorial Amphitheater. It became a public benefit corporation in 1984.
FOTF has since become a yearly tradition serving the communities'
need for affordable cultural activities in the northeast region of Sacramento County. The Festival provides reduced rate tickets for children, students, and seniors.
The outdoor atmosphere provides play-goers with a comfortable, casual, and safe setting.
The first productions were Shakespeare's comedies .
Summer of 1983
Through the years, by audience request, productions have transitioned to musical comedies.
FOTF has also produced many original works:
'Great Songs of the Sky', 'The Jazzbirds', 'Puss in Boots', a musical version of 'She Stoops to Conquer' featuring the music of Mozart, and most recently, Robert Irvin and Jennifer Longo's 1930's treatment of 'The Taming of the Shrew' featuring tunes from Cole Porter and Noel Coward.
FOTF is alway fundraising to cover our ever rising operating costs.
Tickets do not cover our budget for the season.
We are also always looking forward to upgrading our buildings and grounds to include an indoor rehearsal space and storage room for costumes.
Our top needs:
1 Funding: Unrestricted - In order to meet our immediate goal of increasing our production quality, we are looking to expand our potential pool of professional designers, directors, and technical staff. Simultaneously, we are seeking to implement a comprehensive plan to expand and update our ag
2 Technology: Replacement and maintenance of aging equipment for sound and lighting.ing performance facilities.
3 Board Members: Individuals with a love for Theatre. Knowledge of fundraising, social media, and/or marketing.
4 Volunteers: Come join us! Various duties during season's performances, fundraising events, and committees.
5 Funding: Children's Programing - Funding to reinstate our July performances for children. Introducing our young audience to live theatre and allowing audience participation is our goal. Our very reasonable ticket prices encourage family attendance.
Our long term vision is to renovate 1971 amphitheater into a new stagehouse that retains the outdoor stage but includes a new year-round performance space, dressing rooms, and lobby.
